Rheumatology – McMaster Lupus Clinic

Welcome to the McMaster Lupus Clinic.

Overview

The McMaster Lupus Clinic provides high quality outpatient clinical services to patients with systemic lupus erythematosus from Southwestern Ontario. As a group, we share an enthusiasm for collaboration and knowledge translation. We are committed to continually advance and refine our proficiency in clinical, educational, and research endeavours.

Clinical

In addition to our outpatient clinic, our rheumatologists also offer inpatient care and consultations to the Hamilton Health Sciences and the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (both emergency departments and inpatient wards). We also collaborate with other subspecialties such as nephrologists, dermatologists, cardiologists, neurologists etc. to ensure the best possible care for our patients.

Educational

The McMaster Lupus Clinic provides the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Fellowship Program through the Post-Graduate Medical Education Office of the McMaster University (https://medicine.healthsci.mcmaster.ca/divisions/rheumatology/rheumatology-education/rheumatology-systemic-lupus-erythematosus-fellowship/)

The affiliated clinicians also offer educational services to residents and fellows from the Internal Medicine Program and the Division of Rheumatology as well as the Division of Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation during the clinic days.

Research

The McMaster Lupus Clinic is developing the McMaster Lupus Registry, an electronic database collecting demographic, clinical, laboratory and therapeutic variables of more than 400 lupus patients. It is also developing the Lupus Ontario/Anne Matheson Lupus Biobank, a repository of biologic samples of lupus patients for future research. The Clinic is also involved in several clinical trials of experimental medicines in SLE and is a member of LUCIN and the Canadian Network for Improved Outcomes in SLE.
