Emergency Medicine – EMS/Prehospital Care AFC Fellowship

Eligibility

Eligible candidates include:

  • Senior or graduating emergency medicine residents (FRCP or CCFP-EM) in good academic standing
    or
  • Practicing physicians in good standing with
    • CPSO independent or academic license
    • CMPA coverage or equivalent
    • non-EM candidate should demonstrate competence in the independent performance of EM skills and competencies related to their specialty and relevant to the PTM setting in which they currently or intend to practice

At this time the EMS/Prehospital Care program is not accepting applicants for the upcoming academic year July 2024 – June 2025.  Please check back for the following academic year.

Goals of Training

Successful trainees will be experts in the field of prehospital and transport medicine including:

  • Providing medical direction and delegation to other healthcare providers for the care of individual patients in the prehospital and transport setting.
  • Providing medical leadership, direction and expertise to the system of prehospital and transport medicine.
  • Providing PTM medical leadership, direction and expertise to the broader system of health care.
  • Providing medical advice and support to air medical and land critical care transport.
  • Engaging governments, other sectors, agencies and communities for the development, management and coordination of prehospital and transport medicine.
  • Educating others on topics relevant to PTM.
  • Advancing the field of Prehospital and Transport Medicine through scholarly work.

Curriculum Highlights

12 months at Hamilton Health Sciences Hamilton Hospitals, busy tertiary care academic centres including designated trauma, stroke and STEMI site.

Participation in field experiences including ambulance ride-outs and observation dispatch centre operations.

Participation in operations of HHS’ Centre for Paramedic Education and Research such as direct and indirect medical oversight, paramedic education, quality improvement and critical case investigations, participation in committees relevant to PTM including CPER’s medical council, and opportunities for scholarly work.
