EDUCATION
Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology at McMaster
Although the division is one of the smallest in the department, members play a major role in education. This includes year-round supervision of medical students, residents and fellows on Internal Medicine clinical teaching units at St Joseph’s Hospital and Hamilton Health Sciences as well as rotations through the Clinical Pharmacology Inpatient Consult Service (CPICS).
Faculty are active supervisors in postgraduate education at the Masters and Ph.D. level in Health Research Methodology, Medical Sciences – Pharmacology, and eHealth programs at McMaster University. We participate as faculty and co-investigators in the CIHR-funded Drug Safety and Effectiveness Cross-disciplinary Training Program. Members assist with pharmacy resident training and regularly supervise undergraduate Pharmacology, Health Sciences, Arts and Science, and Biostatistics students. In addition, faculty are in constant demand for workshops, electives, tutorials, academic half days and continuing medical education sessions.
Members have won several education excellence awards including the inaugural William Walsh award for lifetime achievement of excellence in education. Our faculty also include or have trained several current deans and vice-deans at Canadian universities.
