Welcome
- Clinical care: Our service is based at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and Hospital, which is one of Ontario’s highest volume cancer centres. We receive referrals from all cancer and malignant hematology services, including from surrounding areas. Fellows will participate in the supervised clinical care of both inpatients and outpatients at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and Hospital. They will manage cardiovascular problems in acute and chronic hematologic neoplasms, post-allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation, and all solid organ cancers. Fellows will also be exposed to advanced echocardiographic techniques to quantify cardiac function.
- Education: Learning opportunities are presented both through “bedside” experience and through dedicated didactic education. Our program comfortably fulfills current guidelines for the recommended experiences and competencies of physicians practicing in cardio-oncology. Fellows will be expected to attend broader Division of Cardiology educational fora, such as Cardiology Regional Rounds, as appropriate.
- Research: We have one of the broadest cardio-oncology research programs in Canada, with ongoing funded prospective clinical studies in prostate cancer, breast cancer, and chronic hematologic neoplasms. Fellows will have the opportunity to be involved in clinical research at both a site level and as a coordinating centre for international clinical studies.
Certification Outcome
The successful completion of the fellowship will grant a Fellowship McMaster Certification.
Entry Requirements
The fellowship program is designed for current residents or recent graduates. Recent graduates are required to submit an application form and comply with McMaster University Postgraduate Medical Education requirements for residents and fellows.

- Experience in the management of a wide variety of cardiovascular problems in various malignancies and in stem cell transplantation recipients

Curriculum Highlights

- Supervised experience in the management of cardio-oncology inpatients and outpatients with a very broad range of acute and chronic hematologic and solid malignancies, as well as patients post-hemopoietic stem cell transplantation

Supervision & Feedback
Fellows are expected to meet with the Program Director on a weekly basis to perform case reviews and to discuss reflections on research experience.
