Within the division, we have programs of excellence both clinically and through research. We are home to the largest and one of the most productive stroke programs in Canada. We provide general neurology consultation and have the expertise and specialty clinics in all areas of neurology, including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disease, ALS, movement disorders, neuro-oncology, headache, neuropathic pain, cognitive neurology, acquired brain injury, and stroke (including neuro-endovascular therapy). Many of these specialty programs have fellowships and are research-intensive. With such a large clinical program, residents are offered extensive experience in clinical neurology in the Clinical Teaching Unit, in outpatient clinics, and on-call. We collaborate actively with other clinical departments including neurosurgery, pediatric neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neuroradiology, geriatrics, and psychiatry.

Our program-specific objectives and requirements are provided in the CanMEDS format along with the recent introduction of a Competence by Design educational program. Program-specific objectives and requirements for each of the core rotations as well as elective rotations within our program are provided. The program includes many educational events including, case-based morning reports, epilepsy rounds, movement disorders rounds, stroke journal club, neurology journal club, stroke grand rounds, neuroscience grand rounds, a problem-based academic half-day, a neuroscience research day, a neuroscience symposium, and other events.

All members of the division participate actively in the undergraduate medical program and the neurology residency training program. Members act as mentors and are active in facilitating the academic pursuits of our trainees. Our faculty have recently been awarded both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching awards.
