A potential new way to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease
Investigators at the Hamilton Center for Kidney Research have found an increase in the protein Activin A in various laboratory models of chronic kidney disease. Inhibiting the action of activins decreased kidney scarring and slowed the progression of chronic kidney disease. Studies will now aim to better understand how Activin A contributes to kidney disease, and to test whether this is also a safe and effective way of slowing progression in people with chronic kidney disease.
