2020 Outstanding Researcher in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, a national, volunteer-based charity focused on funding Crohn’s and colitis research and improving the lives of patients affected by these chronic autoimmune diseases, and Pfizer Canada have recognized Dr. Elena Verdu as one of the recipients of the 2020 outstanding Women leaders in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research awards.
Dr. Verdu is recognized as an Outstanding Researcher for her leadership and significant contributions to IBD research with a primary interest in investigating the role of gut microbes in chronic intestinal inflammation.
Nominations are reviewed and selected based on the nominee’s impact on the Canadian IBD community, contributions to the mission of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and demonstration of innovation and leadership in the field of IBD. Each prestigious award provides the recipient with funding towards IBD research.
“I am thankful to the CCC community for this honor! There are so many deserving women in IBD in Canada! I share this incredible honor with all of them, the ones that came before and on whose shoulders I stand as well as my lab members!” – Dr. Verdu tweeted in response to the announcement of her award.
