Communities of Practice Update June 26, 2023

The CoP Retreat ‘Beyond the Horizon – Engaging Teams to Achieve the Impossible’ was a great success. Thank you to those that attended to hear from our Department of Medicine talent, with Dr. Smita Halder as MC and Dr. Teresa Chan. We also had Bill Tholl, a resource to our department and a prominent thinker in healthcare leadership in Canada.

We also welcomed two remarkable special retreat guests:

• Dr. Daffid (Dave) Williams, Canadian Astronaut, former medical director of Johnson Medical Centre at Nasa, and former CEO of South Lake Hospital here in Ontario, made introductory remarks and shared signed copies of his new book Leadership Moments from NASA
• Aaron Pitcher, McMaster Neudose team member, yielded key insights on team engagement from his group’s work to put an actual satellite in space.
